Files

Cleaned copies keep the same folder structure. Your originals aren’t changed.

How it works

Short answer

To remove metadata from many files at once, choose or drop them above, or drop a whole folder, and click Clean all files. Each file is cleaned in your browser with the same cleaner the single-file tools use, and you download a zip of the cleaned copies. Your originals aren't changed. Batch cleaning is part of Pro.

What happens to each file

The batch cleaner uses the same cleaners as the single-file tools, so the results are identical:

File What's removed
Word, Excel, PowerPoint Author, last editor, company, comments, tracked changes and deleted text, hidden text, custom properties, thumbnail
PDF Document properties, XMP metadata, comments and markup, attachments, scripts, earlier saved versions
MP4, MOV Location, phone make and model, recording dates, software and text fields
JPEG, PNG GPS location, camera and lens, dates, software, comments and embedded prompts

Content Credentials and AI labels stay, because removing them would mislead whoever sees the file next.

Things it leaves for you to check

  • Hidden Excel sheets stay, because formulas may depend on them. The report tells you which files have them.
  • Unapplied PDF redactions are flagged but not applied. The text under them is still there until you apply them in your PDF editor.
  • Signed PDFs lose their digital signature when cleaned, because the file changes.

Open one or two cleaned files before you send the whole batch, to check they look as you expect.

Questions

Which files can the batch cleaner handle?

Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF, MP4 and MOV videos, and JPEG and PNG photos. Other files in the folder are skipped and listed, so you can see what was left out.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser on your own device, even with hundreds of files. The zip is created on your device too.

Is there a size limit?

Up to 500 files and 4 GB in total per batch. Very large videos are best cleaned one at a time with the video checker.

What does it remove?

The same as the single-file tools: author and company names, comments, tracked changes and hidden text in documents; document properties, comments and earlier versions in PDFs; location and device details in videos and photos. Content Credentials and AI labels are kept.

Do I need Pro?

Yes. Checking files one at a time is free on the other tools, and cleaning many files at once is part of Pro.
