AI labels (Content Credentials) stay with the image. Pixel watermarks like SynthID need Google's SynthID Detector.
Remove metadata from photos
Strip EXIF, GPS, camera and text metadata from a photo without touching the image. Everything happens on your device.

How it works
To remove metadata from a photo, drop it above and press Remove metadata. The tool deletes the EXIF, XMP and text blocks from the file without re-compressing the image, then lets you download the clean copy. Nothing is uploaded.
Images: three layers, three answers
Metadata is where your location and camera details hide, so that's what the cleaner removes. Content Credentials stay, because removing an AI label would mislead whoever sees the image next.
Why remove photo metadata
Photos from your phone usually carry the exact spot they were taken. Share the original file by email, a cloud link, a marketplace listing or a forum, and anyone who downloads it can see that location. A few common cases:
- Selling online. A photo of what you're selling, taken at home, can reveal your address.
- Sending documents. Photos of IDs or paperwork can carry location and time.
- Posting on smaller sites. Many forums and blogs keep metadata as uploaded.
Big social networks usually strip it, but not every app does. See which apps remove photo metadata.
What stays the same
The pixels, the colour profile and Content Credentials stay exactly as they were. Colour profiles keep colours accurate on other screens, and Content Credentials are an honest label of how an image was made, so we leave both alone.
Doing it on your phone instead
Both iPhone and Android can remove location when sharing. Our step-by-step guides cover iPhone and Android. They remove location only; this tool removes everything else too.
Questions
Does removing metadata reduce photo quality?
No. The tool removes the metadata blocks and copies the image data byte for byte. Nothing is re-compressed.
Which formats can I clean?
JPEG and PNG photos can be cleaned. WebP images can be checked, but not cleaned yet. Phone photos in HEIC format need converting to JPEG first, which most phones do automatically when you share.
What metadata is removed?
EXIF (including GPS, camera, lens, serial number and dates), XMP, IPTC and Photoshop blocks, comments, and PNG text fields such as embedded AI prompts.
What is kept?
The image itself, its colour profile so colours look the same, and any Content Credentials (C2PA) that record how the image was made.
