To share an iPhone photo without its location, select it in Photos, tap Share, tap Options at the top, and turn off Location. To remove the location from a saved photo, open it, tap More (…), then Adjust Info > Adjust Location > No Location. To stop new photos saving location, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Camera and choose Never.
Option 1: Leave location out when you share
This is the quickest and works for any app you share to.
- Open Photos and select one or more photos.
- Tap Share.
- Tap Options at the top of the share sheet.
- Turn off Location, then tap Done.
- You'll see Location Not Included at the top. Choose the app or person to share with.
The setting applies to this share only, so you'll need to do it each time.
Option 2: Remove location from a saved photo
- Open the photo in Photos.
- Tap More (…), or swipe up on the photo to see its info.
- Tap Adjust Info, then Adjust Location. On some versions, tap Adjust next to the map.
- Choose No Location.
The photo no longer has a location anywhere you share it from. You can add one back the same way.
Option 3: Stop the Camera saving location
- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Security, then Location Services.
- Tap Camera and choose Never.
New photos won't have a location. Photos you already took still do, so combine this with option 1 or 2. You'll lose location-based features for new photos, such as Places in the Photos app.
Check that it worked
Send the photo to yourself the way you normally would, for example by email, AirDrop to a Mac, or a cloud link, then drop the received file into our EXIF viewer. If no GPS shows, you're done. The viewer runs in Safari on your iPhone too, and nothing is uploaded.
What iPhone settings don't remove
Even with location off, a photo still contains your phone model, lens, and the date and time it was taken. If you want those gone too, use the photo metadata remover, which strips everything except the image itself.
